Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the most streamed song within six months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music has not only brought attention back to the genre, but it also brought attention to Latin music as a whole. In 2015, there were two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. In the height of Despacito's chart-topping success in 2017 19 songs mostly in Spanish were in at the very top of 100. The number grew to 41 by 2020. Justin Bieber's bilingual remix Despacito was released in 2017. After that, some of the most famous artists began collaborating with reggaeton artists. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny for MIA (2018) in addition to Madonna worked with Maluma in the creation of Medellin. As early as the year 2020, some musicians from reggaeton felt dissatisfied with the direction the genre was heading towards the more mainstream. Rauw Alajandro is a part of a new generation of musicians who are determined to shift the course. Rauw Alejandro incorporated elements of other genres and electronic music.
